That’s why Alpheios once again turned to Fenego’s expertise for a seamless migration to Intershop CaaS. The result? A more stable, efficient, and cost-effective solution that prepares them for the future.

Alpheios was running on an aging CentOS 7 system, which had reached its end-of-life. Their database was still hosted on AWS-based Oracle, while migrating to Microsoft SQL Server in the Azure Cloud would be a more efficient and future-ready choice. Additionally, the transition was necessary since Intershop 11 and beyond no longer support Oracle databases. The time for an upgrade had arrived!

As a loyal Intershop customer since 2018, Alpheios chose to transition to Intershop CaaS (Commerce as a Service), a SaaS solution based on Intershop 7.10. This offered a stable, scalable platform with a simplified cost model, consolidating licensing and operational expenses into one transparent fee.

The migration was executed in close collaboration with Intershop, with Fenego guiding Alpheios through every step of the process as the central point of contact. The goal? A smooth, near-zero-downtime transition that ensured uninterrupted business operations.

By switching to Intershop CaaS, Alpheios no longer has to worry about server maintenance and software updates. Even though this migration followed an ‘as-is’ approach, the company is already benefiting from lower operational costs and a more streamlined infrastructure. The new platform is not only more stable but also primed for further optimizations.

The next step? Alpheios is moving towards a headless architecture with Intershop 11+, enabling a flexible, modular e-commerce environment that can rapidly adapt to evolving customer needs. Additionally, with this migration, their application is now hosted on an Azure AKS cluster, ensuring even greater scalability and efficiency.
